Lung Cancer, Epilepsy, and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Trucks Take the Spotlight This November
November is known as National Lung Cancer, Epilepsy, and Pancreatic Cancer awareness month, three causes that Road Scholar Transport has incorporated into our fleet over the years to help spread awareness. This month, we take a closer look at each organization and the meaning behind these 53’ rolling billboards.
Lung Cancer Alliance
According to the American Cancer Society, Lung cancer is the second most common cancer among men and women and will result in nearly 127,070 deaths this year with an estimated 238,340 new cases. 1 in 16 men and 1 in 17 women will develop lung cancer.
The idea to create an awareness truck for Lung Cancer Alliance got started when Linda Sacco, a volunteer at the organization, and her husband, ran into Road Scholar’s President Jim Barrett at an antique car show. Linda’s husband was a former driver for Road Scholar and while catching up, Linda began talking about Lung Cancer Alliance. The idea of creating a trailer for this great organization took off.
On the Road to Saving Lives, Road Scholar’s awareness truck features three of Lung Cancer Alliance’s amazing advocates from Scranton; Karen (a two-time lung cancer survivor) and her husband Jim, along with Linda, who is Karen’s sister.

Clayton’s Hope
Epilepsy is a brain disorder involving repeated, spontaneous seizures of any type. Close to 3.4 million Americans currently have epilepsy with over 200,000 being diagnosed each year and nearly 3,000 passing away from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy.
Displaying the organization’s logo, a picture of the sun surrounded by handprints, Road Scholar’s truck is spreading awareness for Clayton’s Hope, named after a little boy who had epilepsy, Because Everyone Deserves to Live Seizure Free.
The organization was established to benefit epilepsy research, awareness and support.

Pancreatic Cancer
7%
of cancer deaths in America are pancreatic with over 64,050 people expected to
be diagnosed this year and nearly 50,550 passing away, according to the
American Cancer Society. 1 in 64 will develop
pancreatic cancer in their lifetime.
Road Scholar has taken pancreatic cancer awareness to the next level, painting an 80,000 lb. tractor trailer purple, displaying the disease’s trademark purple ribbon and stars while traveling nationwide on the road to a cure.
