Down Syndrome Awareness Truck to Attend 24th Annual Buddy Walk

 

 Preparations for the 24th annual Leigh Valley Buddy Walk are underway to help raise money for the Eastern Pennsylvania Down Syndrome Center and to show the world that love doesn’t count chromosomes.

The event, which consists of over 1,200 walkers each year, will take place Saturday, October 7th during National Down Syndrome Awareness Month at Cedar Crest College (100 College Ave.  Allentown, PA) and host a family fun day out for a good cause.  In addition to the walk, there will be food trucks, activities, music, crafts, bounce houses, characters such as Star Wars, giveaways and more so come on out and have a good time.

Also showing its support at the event will be Road Scholar Transport’s Down syndrome awareness truck.  Decked out in yellow and blue, the awareness colors of Down syndrome, this tractor trailer travels the country throughout the year delivering freight.  On the road to embrace life, the trailer is helping to show the world that “Love Doesn’t Count Chromosomes,” featuring Logan, a two-year old who rocks it out everyday teaching that it’s not “Down” syndrome, it’s “Up” syndrome.  Read Logan’s story here.

On the Rise: Cargo Theft Surges in First Quarter of 2024

The trucking industry faces an ongoing challenge with cargo theft, and recent data indicates a troubling trend of increasing incidents in the first quarter of 2024.   According to CargoNet , theft incidents increased 46% in 2024’s first quarter compared to 1Q 2023 and 10% from 4Q 2023.   According to the report : *The average stolen shipment was $281,757 with the declared total being $76 million. *An estimated $154.6 million of product was stolen during 1Q 2024. *Illinois experienced the greatest spike in thefts (126% YOY) followed by California (72% increase YOY) and Texas (22% rise YOY). *Appliances, alcohol and beverages were among the top stolen products but CargoNet noted that a “wide array of goods” were stolen, creating a threat to all industries. *While the majority of thefts were “complex fraud schemes,” simple cargo theft continues to persist with popular hotspots being Southern California, Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, and the corridor spanning New York, North Jersey

Trucking Regulations and Expectations to Look Out for in 2024

  In the year 2024, the trucking industry is expected to undergo several significant regulations and changes.  One of the key areas of focus will be on environmental sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.  Governments around the world are increasingly implementing stricter emission standards for trucks, aiming to combat climate change and improve air quality.
