Shining a Light: Road Scholar Transport Supports National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness Month
Each July, National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention Month serves as a powerful reminder of the thousands of children and adults affected by facial differences. It’s a time to honor their strength, educate the public, and support organizations that provide critical resources and hope. For Road Scholar Transport, this month holds special meaning—not only in raising awareness but in rolling it across America on wheels.
A Chance Encounter
The story of Road Scholar’s involvement with craniofacial awareness began in the most unexpected of places: a quiet pizza restaurant.
Jim Barrett, founder and former president of Road Scholar Transport, was meeting with a man who had a simple but powerful request—a trailer to raise awareness for the Children's Craniofacial Association. As busy as Barrett was at the time, he suggested they reconvene in a month or two when things had settled.
But fate—or perhaps something more divine—had other plans.
As the two men exited the restaurant, a young girl walked in. She had a clear facial difference. In a nearly empty building, her timing felt too perfect to ignore. Barrett stopped, turned to the man he’d just dined with, and said something that would change everything: “It’s not a question anymore. We’re going to do the trailer.
And they did.
That pivotal moment led to the creation of a beautifully wrapped awareness truck honoring children with craniofacial condition. This trailer is part of Road Scholar’s larger Awareness Campaign, which uses custom-designed trucks to promote causes that matter deeply to communities across the country.
A Moving Mission
Road Scholar Transport’s fleet is more than a symbol of logistics excellence—it’s a moving billboard of compassion and purpose. Our awareness trucks advocate for a wide range of causes including autism, breast cancer, and veterans’ support. But the craniofacial awareness trailer holds a special place in the hearts of many, not only because of how it began, but because of the families it continues to support and inspire.
Children born with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other craniofacial differences often face countless surgeries, emotional challenges, and social stigma. The visibility of a truck like this helps normalize differences, spark conversations, and encourage kindness.
More Than Just Freight
Road Scholar doesn’t just move goods—we move messages. By partnering with organizations like the Children’s Craniofacial Association, we transport awareness from city to city, reminding every person who sees our trailers that beauty comes in many forms—and that every face has a story worth telling.
As we observe National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness Month, Road Scholar Transport reaffirms its commitment to advocacy, empathy, and action. One pizza meeting, one little girl, and one decision turned into something much bigger than logistics—it turned into a legacy of hope.
