Miles of Impact: Honoring Awareness Month with Road Scholar Transport’s Endometrial Cancer and Red Cross Initiatives

March is a month of remembrance and advocacy, with national observances for Endometriosis Awareness, American Red Cross Month, and World Down Syndrome Day.  As part of our commitment to giving back and raising awareness, Road Scholar Transport has been using our fleet of awareness trucks to spotlight these critical causes.  Today, we take a closer look at the issues impacting millions of lives and how our community efforts make a difference.

Endometriosis: A Silent Struggle

Endometriosis remains one of the most under-diagnosed yet impactful conditions affecting women.  Current estimates suggest that nearly 10% of women in the United States—amounting to millions nationwide—suffer from this chronic condition, when the lining of the uterus spreads to other pelvic organs, causing severe pain and sometimes infertility.  Recent data indicates that globally, up to 190 million women could be affected, underscoring the urgent need for increased awareness, early detection, and improved treatments.

For many women, the journey to a proper diagnosis is long and fraught with challenges.  Although treatments are available to manage symptoms, there is still no cure.  Awareness initiatives aim to encourage regular check-ups and conversations about the signs of endometriosis, empowering women to seek help sooner and improve their quality of life.

Peggy’s Pathway: Honoring a Legacy of Early Detection and Innovation

Uterine (endometrial) cancer remains a formidable adversary, with recent estimates projecting that over 69,000 women will be diagnosed this year in the U.S., and approximately 13,860 lives may be lost to this disease—often because it is detected too late.  Peggy Pettinato’s story is a poignant reminder of this tragedy.  Diagnosed at an advanced stage, Peggy battled uterine cancer before her untimely passing in early 2015.

Inspired by her memory, Peggy’s Pathway for Women’s Cancer Care was established with dual objectives: to promote early detection and to foster innovative treatment approaches.  The foundation aims to raise significant funds—targeting at least $100,000 annually—to support vital research that could one day save lives.  Road Scholar Transport proudly supports Peggy’s Pathway by featuring her image on one of our awareness trucks, turning our fleet into a moving tribute and a catalyst for change.

American Red Cross: Transforming Heartbreak into Hope

The American Red Cross has been a beacon of support and compassion since its founding in 1881 by Clara Barton.  Recognizing the organization’s critical role, March was designated as American Red Cross Month in 1943.  According to recent data, every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. requires blood, and nearly 6.8 million people donate blood annually.  With about 40% of blood donations coming through the Red Cross, each contribution is a lifeline—one donation can save up to three lives.

Road Scholar Transport is committed to supporting these lifesaving efforts.  Our American Red Cross awareness truck, a familiar sight along major freight routes, not only delivers freight but also serves as a traveling reminder of the power of generosity.  From participating in blood drives to transporting supplies during emergencies—like our role in moving over 80,000 pounds of supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims—the Red Cross is at the heart of our community outreach.

World Down Syndrome Day: Celebrating Diversity and Raising Awareness

Every March 21, communities worldwide come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.  The date, representing the extra 21st chromosome found in individuals with Down syndrome, is marked by vibrant displays—mismatched or colorful socks and other creative expressions—that spark conversation and awareness.  Road Scholar Transport joins this global movement, using our awareness trucks to promote acceptance, inclusion, and support for individuals with Down syndrome.  Read all about Road Scholar Transport’s Down Syndrome awareness truck and how it started here.
